The Sun Conure (Aratinga solstitialis), also known as the Sun Parakeet, is a medium-sized, vibrantly colored parrot native to northeastern South America. Measuring about 12 inches and weighing 110-130 grams, it boasts a predominantly golden-yellow plumage with orange on its face and belly, and green and blue accents on its wings and tail. Juvenile birds are initially greener, achieving full coloration by about two years old.
Highly social, these birds live in flocks and form monogamous pairs. In captivity, Sun Conures can live up to 30 years.
